Part Bins

The Part Bins frame is used to create and maintain a list of codes to identify the physical location of where a stock part can be found at a particular inventory location.

For example the code could identify a row, shelf, box or tray. These part bins can be entered on the Part Inventory Location Manager. Part Bins can also be used as a method for conducting a Physical Inventory Count.

System Flag 5033 controls whether or not part bins are required as well as whether or not they are validated. See the System Flags section below for more information.

Create

To load the Bin Information i-frame, click the Retrieve button to load the list of part bin codes. You may need to scroll to the bottom to find the first blank Bin field.

Type in a new Part Bin code. This field has a limit of six characters. Enter a description for the part bin in the Description field. This field has a limit of 20 characters.

For example: 001A – ROW 001 BIN A

The codes are user-defined so it is up to your organization to decide on a format that will best suit your needs.

Once you have completed the entry, click the Save button at the top of the frame. The Part Bin number will now be available to assign to parts on Part Inventory Location Manager.

Modify

You can only modify the description of existing codes. Once a code has been created and saved, the Bin field cannot be changed.

To narrow the list of codes returned, you can type a value in the Starting With field before clicking retrieve. For example, typing in 00 will return only bin numbers that start with 00.

If you want to change a description, click in the Description field and type a new one over the existing description and click Save to update the record.

Disable

To disable a Part Bin, check the disabled box in the row of the bin number you want to disable. Click Save. The part bin will no longer be available for use.

Delete

You can only delete a code provided it is not in use on any other tables in system. If the Part Bin is being used, you will not be able to delete it.

To delete a Part Bin that is not in use, click in the row of the code you want to delete to make it active. Click the Delete button (Red X). The selected row will turn red. Click the Save button to delete the code from the system.
