This screen is designed to help you maintain Part Cross References so you can correctly index an existing Part Main Catalog part number to another number for the same part. Various vendors may provide the same part with different numbers. These new numbers can become vendor Cross References. There are six types of Part Cross References allowed in M5.
Vendor: A part number defined by the vendor
Manufacturer: A part number defined by the Manufacturer
Alias: A part number which may no longer be current
User: A user defined part number
Bar Code: A part number created for bar coding
Equivalent: A part number of a different part that may be used instead of or in addition to the catalog part
To create a Part Number cross reference, enter the master number from the Part Main Catalog. The description and status will appear. Any existing cross references will be displayed below. You may change the Status of any of the existing cross references if desired. Then go to the last empty row and select the Type for the new cross reference. Next enter the Part number cross reference and the Qualifier information if applicable.
If you are creating a vendor type part number cross reference enter the vendor it was created from. The system will provide the How Created and Date Merged as appropriate. Click on save.
If you want to have one of the existing cross references become a cross reference on a different master part or have it become the current master part number, select its row. Then use the ... button next to Find on the menu and select from the following choices:
• Merge Xref into Master part
• Merge Xref into Xref
• Swap Xref and Master Part
M5 will auto-save and perform the selected function. If a merge has taken place, the old part number can be reused as a new part number or cross reference if necessary.
